Indicator Purpose

This indicator is meant to monitor the number of teachers that are given opportunities for continuous professional development in teaching skills. It also monitors which school systems support ongoing professional development of its teachers.

Definition of key concepts

  • In-service professional development programs: In-service teacher professional development, also known as in-service teacher education, is any learning opportunity for teachers who are currently in practice in a classroom.

Instructions            

What we measure:

  • Number of teachers at a school who are currently participating in an in-service professional development program.

  • Total number of teachers teaching at the school surveyed.

Who to measure:

  • Data to be disaggregated by:

a.       school level (i.e., primary, lower secondary, upper secondary)

b.       gender (mandatory)

c.        age (mandatory)

How to measure:

  • Attendance registry from in-service professional development programs.

  • To be reported on at least annually.

Scoring
